Michael P. Weingartner
Michael P. Weingartner (born July 5, 1917 in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm ; † August 8, 1996 there ) was a German art and church painter .
Weingartner first learned the painting trade and practiced the profession for six years after passing the journeyman's examination. He also studied in the winter semester at the painting school in Munich . After the war he studied religious painting, landscape and portrait painting, as well as architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . Weingartner fell in the Second World War on the Eastern Front in Soviet captivity . Sunflower fields offered him protection on his flight from captivity , so these flowers became his favorite motif.
Weingartner worked primarily for over 250 churches and monasteries in Bavaria and Austria , which he furnished with mosaics , wall and ceiling paintings. His work can be found, for example, in the Maria Schutz church in Munich- Pasing (his main work) as well as in the parish church and the hospital church in his home town of Pfaffenhofen . In 1974 he created a large fresco for the gable wall of the school building there, which is intended to commemorate the Cistercians in Seligenporten .
In 1952 Weingärtner painted a large St. Christophorus figure on the facade of the rectory of Kaldorf , municipality of Titting . In addition to religious works, Weingartner also created watercolors and oil paintings. Profane works include the mosaic doors in the Pfaffenhofen Meeting House (former girls' school) and a mural on the fire station.
Weingartner received the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1990 for his services , in 1992 he was awarded the silver city medal of the city of Pfaffenhofen and in 1994 the district medal of the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm .
He lived from 1954 until his death in 1996 - his wife Paula until 2007 - in the so-called Ritter-Haus on the upper main square in Pfaffenhofen. Paula Weingartner died on January 19, 2007.
