Michael Rachlis

Michael Rachlis (* 1884 in Moscow , † 1953 in London ) was a German architect , interior designer and set designer .

Life

Michael Rachlis, who came from a Jewish family, studied at the Technical University of Munich from 1905 to 1911 . He worked in Berlin since 1913, where he initially designed stage sets. Later some country houses, as well as interior fittings, etc. a. in cooperation with the Hungarian architect Ferenc Domány .

In 1922/23, Hans Nitzschke found work as an architect in Rachli's studio .

Rachlis had a contract with the Deutsche Werkstätten since 1928 and designed room furnishings for them. In 1935 he fled to London and worked there as an architect until his death. In particular, some of the Art Deco business premises have survived.
