Michael Rodríguez Gutiérrez (born December 30, 1981 in Cacao , Alajuela ) is a Costa Rican football player .

society

Rodríguez comes from near Alajuela and therefore soon joined the Costa Rican top club LD Alajuelense . In 2003 he had his first league appearance and that year he also won his first championship title. In the following years the central defender became more and more important for his club, winning the championship again with Alajuelense in 2003 and the Central American club title, the CONCACAF Champions Cup , the following year .

In June 2008 he signed with the Seattle Sounders in the US, who play in the USL First Division . On June 24, he made his first game for the club against Hollywood United FC in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup .

National team

He made his first appearance for the national team on February 11, 2006.

Before that he was in the 2001 U20 World Cup in Argentina and at the 2004 Olympic Games he was in the U23 squad, but was not used.

After he had to sit out due to injury in the first round of the 2005/06 championship, he played an excellent second half of the season and was nominated at the last minute for Costa Rica's World Cup squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. It was certainly an advantage for him that he played with the central player of the Costa Rican defense, Luis Marín , in the club. But he was not used at the World Cup.
