Michael Sukale

Michael Sukale (* 1940 ) is a German philosopher and university professor .

Life

Michael Sukale graduated from the University of Mannheim with a degree in sociology in 1966 . 1971 followed a doctorate at Stanford University . In 1984 he completed his habilitation in philosophy and science at the University of Mannheim. Sukale was then from 1968 to 1976 Lecturer and Assistant Professor at Princeton University , from 1972 to 1973 Senior Lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , 1976 Assistant Professor at the University of California, Davis , from 1976 to 1977 at the University of Maryland, College Park , and University of California, Santa Barbara in 1977 . From 1977 to 1978 he was an associate professor at the University of Chicago , before he was the chair for science and sociology at the University of Mannheim from 1980 to 1981 . This was followed by substitute professorships at the Universities of Düsseldorf (1982 to 1985), Konstanz (1985 to 1987) and Mannheim (1989 to 1991) as well as a visiting professorship at the University of Leipzig (1990 to 1991), before Sukale became Professor of Philosophy and Fundamentals of Science in 1992 the University of Oldenburg . In 1996 he was one of the founders of the Institute for Philosophy, of which he was director for a long time. In 2005 Michael Sukale went into retirement.

Michael Sukale's main research areas include epistemology and science theory , logic , philosophy of language , aesthetics and social philosophy .
