Michael Wenzel Halbax (Czech Michael Václav Halbax , also Halwachs , Halwax , Halpax , Holbwox , * 1661 in Ebenfurth , † August 1, 1711 in St. Florian , Austria ob der Enns ) was a Czech-Austrian church painter.

Michael Wenzel Halbax was a pupil of the Venice painter Johann Carl Loth (Carlo Lotti) , later court painter to Emperor Leopold I. During his stay in Venice he met Johann Michael Rottmayr and Peter Strudel .

In Prague he spent the period from 1686 to 1694 and from 1700 to 1709. After 1700 he became a member of the painters' guild in Prague's old town . There he was influenced by the works of the painter Karel Škréta . Together with Franz Maximilian Kaňka and Franz Preiss, he tried in 1707 to found an art academy in Prague. After the unsuccessful attempt, he emigrated to Linz in 1709 .

Together with Wenzel Nosecký, Siard Nosecký's father, he created wall and ceiling paintings in Zákupy Castle .

Among his students was Wenzel Lorenz Reiner . His influence is also noticeable in the works of his nephew Franz Gregor Ignaz Eckstein and Siard Nosecký .

His son Georg Joseph Halbax (1693–1768) was a composer and theater poet and from 1716 an Augustinian canon in the St. Florian monastery .
