Michael Wilk (* 1956 in Wiesbaden ) is a German doctor, anarchist author and environmental activist .

Life

After apprenticeship and training as a blacksmith , Wilk studied medicine and received his doctorate. He works as a general practitioner and emergency physician as well as a pain therapist and psychotherapist . Since 1976 he has been involved in the Anarchist Forum Wiesbaden and the Working Group Environment Wiesbaden (AKU). He is an activist in social and ecological movements such as the anti-nuclear power movement , the alliance of citizens' initiatives against airport expansion ( Runway West ) and participant in the Libertarian Days in 1987 and 1993 in Frankfurt. In his theoretical discussions, he devotes himself to the topics of power and rule as well as criticism of the state. He contrasts his critical assessment of concepts of power, including mediation and dialogue processes, with approaches to emancipatory strategies. Wilk is a contemporary witness of the events in connection with the death of Günter Sare in 1985.

Internationally, Wilk supports humanitarian projects as an emergency doctor in crisis areas, such as refugee resettlements in Morazán , El Salvador in 1989 and, since 2014, in Rojava in northern Syria . Here he works closely with the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva sor a kurd), trains emergency medicine and is involved in numerous missions, including a. in Manbij , Raqqa , as well as the care of refugees in Afrin and in relation to the Turkish military offensive in northern Syria 2019 . In numerous reports and interviews, he criticizes the violation of human rights and the humanitarian situation of the people affected in Rojava.

In 2004 Wilk took part in the film The White Diamond by Werner Herzog .
