Michael Zechner (born January 31, 1975 ) is a former Austrian soccer player and coach .

Career

As an 18-year-old he was a member of the first team of FK Austria Wien , for which he played 20 point games from 1993 to 1996 , the first season in the 1st division , then in the Bundesliga , the top division in Austrian football. He denied the second half of the 1995/96 season on loan from the second division club VfB Mödling . For the 1996/97 season he moved to the second division club Favoritner AC . In January 1997 he joined the regional division Wiener Sport-Club . Then played for First Vienna FC and FCN St. Pölten in the 2nd division .

For the 1999/2000 season he was signed by 1. FC Union Berlin , for which he played his first season in the third-class Regionalliga Nordost and at the end of the season was accepted as a champion in the newly structured Regionalliga Nord , which was held in two seasons . With his 30 league games and three goals he contributed to the championship and promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga , in which he was used in four league games by the end of the year. He also played six games in the DFB Cup competition from 2000 to 2002, in which he played five in the 2000/01 season alone and even reached the final with 1. FC Union. The final against FC Schalke 04 , which took place on May 26, 2001 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium in front of 73,011 spectators, was lost 2-0, with Harun Isa coming on in the 70th minute.

In January 2002 he moved to the third division newcomer SC Paderborn 07 , for whom he contributed with his five point games in the second half of the season, in which he scored a goal, that the class could be held as 14th.

He then returned to Austria and played the 2002/03 season for SC-ESV Parndorf 1919 in the fourth-class Burgenland League, from which he emerged as champions with the team. He then played for one season for Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz , then the 2004/05 season for second division Kapfenberger SV , then from 2005 to 2007 for First Vienna FC in the third division Regionalliga Ost. He continued his active football career with the Lower Austrian national league club ASK Kottingbrunn , whose coach he was for a few months in 2010.

For the 2010/11 season he moved to the fifth-rate SC Herzogenburg . He then played for FC Tulln , SC Laa / Thaya , fourth-class FC Mistelbach , which he also briefly coached, SV Zeiselmauer and USV Kettlasbrunn , for whom he last played in June 2018.
