Michaela Zelzer

Michaela Zelzer (born May 15, 1939 in Vienna ; † May 7, 2012 there ) was an Austrian classical philologist .

Life

Michaela Zelzer, b. Langer, studied Classical Philology at the University of Vienna (doctorate in 1962 with Rudolf Hanslik and Albin Lesky ), then two years in Middle Latin and Latin palaeography in Munich with Bernhard Bischoff and Franz Brunhölzl , and from May 1, 1965 worked for the Church Fathers Commission of the Austrian Academy of the sciences , where she edited several volumes of the Corpus scriptorum ecclesiasticorum latinorum . In addition, she worked as an associate professor at the University of Vienna; since 2006 she was also a member of the Accademia Ambrosiana in Milano.

Zelzer's main research interests were the Latin literature of late antiquity , Latin palaeography and tradition, and Latin patristics . Together with her husband Klaus Zelzer , she wrote several studies on early Christianity, especially on the Rule of Benedict of Nursia and on Ambrosius of Milan . She also created basic critical editions on Augustine von Hippo (1974, 2004) and Ambrosius (1982–1996).
