Michal Hašek (born April 17, 1976 in Brno ) is a Czech politician of the social democratic ČSSD and since 2008 Hejtman (captain) of the South Moravia region .

Hašek graduated from high school in Tišnov in 1994 and then studied law at Masaryk University in Brno . He finished his studies in 1999 with the master’s examination. In 2010 he received his doctorate from a Slovak private university.

Between 1997 and 1998 he worked as assistant to the mayor of the Drásov municipality and joined the ČSSD in 1998 . Between 1998 and 2000 he was assistant to a social democratic member of parliament. Between 1998 and 2009 he sat on the municipal council of the Drásov municipality, in which he also temporarily held the office of deputy mayor and mayor . Between 2000 and 2004 he was a member of the regional representation of the South Moravia region .

Top positions in the ČSSD

In 2002 he was elected member of the Czech Parliament , to which he has been a member, with a brief interruption between 2009 and 2010 after his election to Hejtman. From 2002 to 2006 he was deputy parliamentary group leader of his party and then until 2008 chairman of the group. Since 2007 he has been a member of the social democratic shadow government as a candidate for the office of Minister of Agriculture. In autumn 2008 he was the top candidate of his party in the regional elections in the South Moravian Region , in which the ČSSD won the most votes. As a result, Hašek was elected Hejtman of the region in a coalition between ČSSD and KDU-ČSL . He successfully defended this position in the 2012 regional elections.

In 2011, Hašek ran unsuccessfully against the acting chairman Bohuslav Sobotka for the party chairmanship of the ČSSD , but was elected first vice chairman at the party congress. After the parliamentary elections in 2013, Hašek, who is said to be closer to the incumbent President Miloš Zeman , was considered, alongside the top candidate Bohuslav Sobotka, as a possible candidate of the party for the office of Czech Prime Minister , who is appointed by the President in the Czech Republic. Since the Social Democrats did not achieve the gains they had hoped for a change of government in the early parliamentary elections , but even lost 2%, Hasek tried to replace the party leader Bohuslav Sobotka, where he was actually supported by the former party leader and President Miloš Zeman. This attempted "coup" was criticized both in the party and in public. Hašek then resigned on November 8, 2013 from the vice chairmanship of ČSSD.

Hašek is married and has one daughter.
