Michel Aatz

Michel Aatz (born August 6, 1936 in Paris , † June 23, 1995 ) was a French composer .

Life

After completing his academic training, Michel Aatz worked as an engineer at IBM . Courses at the Schola Cantorum in Paris followed. He worked with Claude Ballif and attended courses with Iannis Xenakis .

Aatz published his first compositions from 1968, the first for piano until 1970. During this phase he dealt with the Ondes Martenot , for which he also published four pieces with piano and percussion. From 1971 he composed for chamber music ensembles. Such a nonet for woodwinds and strings with the title Di és. He composed the composition Mordfeld in August 1971 during a stay in Reinbach. From 1974 he also began to publish pieces for orchestra. He now also used tape in his compositions, as in the Heleneï . for two trumpets, trombone, three percussionists , tape and voice ad libitum. In the 1980s, some of his compositions were also performed internationally. In 1983 Engrenages was premiered in Paris with saxophonist Daniel Kientzy . In Budapest, Wenn aus der Ferne was performed for alto, string quartet, cor anglais and percussion with a text by Friedrich Hölderlin in 1983. In 1984 the quartiles composed in 1978 were performed in Paris. In 1990 Daniel Kientzy performed the Nocturne pour Luigi Nono for alto saxophone and electro-acoustic tape for the first time and Salome, Todestanz was performed at the Journées musicales de Fresnes in 1994. His late compositions in the 1990s were mostly electro-acoustic music using tape. In 1995, Denise Mégevand performed La harpe eclatéee for Celtic harp and tape. Michel Aatz died on June 23, 1995.
