criticism

Michel Crippa came under fire in 1998 when he wrote a letter in his capacity as ASTAG director of the EU with the intention that the EU should remain tough in the ongoing negotiations on the heavy vehicle tax. Switzerland was primarily concerned with the high price that every truck over 3.5 tonnes per road unit had to pay in order to make the shift of freight traffic to rail as an alternative to attractively priced. The Swiss people had made a binding call for the relocation of goods traffic to rail through the adopted Alpine Initiative . The then Transport Minister, Federal Councilor Moritz Leuenberger , publicly complained that his position had been weakened by Michel Crippa's letter. This led to public debates about the Swiss negotiating position and whether the letter was not a fraud against the will of the people.

military

Michel Crippa held the degree of brigadier in the Swiss Army and headed the Troop Information Service of the Swiss Army from 1989 to 1995. From 1997 to 1999 he was the Central President of the Swiss Officers Society .
