Michel Pastre (born April 7, 1966 in Nîmes ) is a French jazz musician ( tenor saxophone ) and big band leader who mainly performs in swing style .

Career

Pastre initially played drums and alto saxophone , but switched to tenor saxophone in 1983. He played first in Toulouse in the orchestra of Paul Chéron, then from 1991 on with Banana Jazz and in the Tuxedo Jazz Band ; with both bands he was involved in recordings and toured France. Since 1995, he also played with the Super swing machine of Gérard Badini . In 1997 he founded a quintet together with trumpeter Alain Bouchet. With his septet he went on tour in 1999 with Al Casey , the guitarist of Fats Waller ; for the live recording of this tour he was awarded the Prix ​​Sidney Bechet of the Académie du Jazz . In 2000 he founded his own big band, with which he is touring mainly in France and Spain and has released several albums. He also worked with Dany Doriz and the Happy Feeling group .
