Michel Troisgros (born April 2, 1958 in Roanne ) is a French chef and oenologist . In his home town he runs the well-known starred restaurant Les Frères Troisgros .

Life

Michel Troisgros comes from a well-known family of restaurateurs . In 1957, a year before he was born, his uncle Jean Troisgros (1926-1983) and his father Pierre Troisgros (* 1928) took over the restaurant of the Hôtel Moderne opposite the train station in Roanne , which their parents Jean-Baptiste and Marie owned Troisgros acquired in 1930 and managed it with increasing success. The brothers who gave the restaurant the name Les Frères Troisgros were raised by their parents to respect the “high art of cooking” and - at times together with Paul Bocuse - were trained by leading chefs in the country, including atGaston Richard in the Lucas Carton restaurant in Paris and with Fernand Point and Paul Mercier in the La Pyramide restaurant in Vienne . Just one year after their return to Roanne, the Troisgros brothers were awarded the first star in the Michelin Guide in 1955 for their services in their father's restaurant , the second followed in 1965, the third in 1968. The purchase of a neighboring building made the enlargement of the restaurant possible (1970).

The upscale gastronomy shaped the childhood and youth of Michel Troisgros. In 1974, at the age of 16, he began his training at the hotel management school in Grenoble , where he met his future wife Marie-Pierre. After completing their training, they traveled the world together to complete their knowledge and skills in renowned restaurants such as Frédy Girardet in Lausanne , the Taillevent in Paris , the Chez Panisse in San Francisco , the Comme chez soi in Brussels and the Hôtel Connaught in London and with Michel Guérard in Eugénie-les-Bains . Afterwards Michel Troisgros returned to Roanne and worked at the side of his uncle Jean. When he died in 1983, the station square in Roanne Place Jean Troisgros was baptized in his honor . From then on, Michel stood by his father in the Maison Troisgros . In the 1980s, the Troisgros boutiques opened in Japan . Since Pierre Troisgros retired in 1993, Michel and Marie-Pierre have continued to run the company. In 1995, the couple founded Central in a neighboring building . In 2000, a Troisgros restaurant was inaugurated in Moscow .

Michel and Marie-Pierre Troisgros have three children: Marion (* 1983), César (* 1986) and Léo (* 1993), who are also dedicated to gastronomy. Michel's brother Claude runs a Troisgros restaurant in Rio de Janeiro , while his niece Anne-Marie, daughter of Claude, runs the Gravelier restaurant in Bordeaux .
