Michelbach is a former French commune with 340 inhabitants (as of 2013) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region . It belonged to the Arrondissement Thann-Guebwiller , the canton of Cernay and was a member of the Thann-Cernay community association .
With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipalities of Aspach-le-Haut and Michelbach were merged into a commune nouvelle with the name Aspach-Michelbach .
geography
Michelbach is located in the transition area between the Vosges and the Upper Rhine Plain , about 15 kilometers west of Mulhouse . In 1982 the Michelbach dam ( Barrage de Michelbach ) was built in Michelbach . It covers 81 hectares and provides drinking water to the Mulhouse region. In periods of little rain, water is taken from the reservoir, in rainy months the lake is filled by a bridge from the Doller flowing south .
