Michele Mincuzzi

Michele Mincuzzi (born June 18, 1913 in Bari , Italy ; † June 3, 1997 ibid) was Archbishop of Lecce .

Life

Michele Mincuzzi was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Bari on July 25, 1936 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on July 19, 1966 titular bishop of Sinnipsa and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Bari . He was ordained bishop on October 2nd of the same year by Enrico Nicodemo , Archbishop of Bari; Co- consecrators were Renato Luisi , Bishop of Nicastro , and Jolando Nuzzi , Bishop of Campagna . Paul VI appointed him on October 12, 1974. as Bishop of Ugento-Santa Maria di Leuca , before John Paul II was appointed Archbishop of Lecce on January 27, 1981 . During the kidnapping of the former Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro in April 1978, who was friends with Mincuzzi and his family, he and other Italian bishops appealed to the Red Brigades to find a non-violent solution to the conflict.

On December 7, 1988, John Paul II accepted Mincuzzi's age-related resignation. He retired to his hometown of Bari, where he died two weeks before his 84th birthday. In October 1998 his body was transferred to Lecce Cathedral.
