Career

Michiel Lochtenbergh only started playing handball at HV De Gazellen when he was 14. After three years he moved to the first division club E&O Emmen, where he made his debut in the Dutch premier league and won the Dutch Cup in 2002 and 2003. In 2003 Lochtenbergh was looking for a new challenge and signed a contract with the German second division club TSV Bayer Dormagen. In his first season in Germany he was elected to the all-star team in the second division. With the team, Lochtenbergh reached the relegation to promotion to the first handball league in 2006 and 2007 , but failed. It was not until the third attempt that he rose to the top German league in 2008.

In his first first division season in 2008/09 Michiel Lochtenbergh achieved the third-best seven-meter quota in the league after Vid Kavtičnik ( THW Kiel ) and Lars Christiansen ( SG Flensburg-Handewitt ). Of 115 seven meters he converted 95 (82.6%).

Together with the Polish international Michał Kubisztal, he was the tenth top scorer in the Bundesliga this season .

Michiel Lochtenbergh has played 82 international matches for the Dutch national team so far, but has never qualified for a major international tournament.

Coaching career

On December 16, 2014 he took over the coaching position at TuS Derschlag , after the previous coach Časlav Dinčić had switched to the women's Bundesliga to the Vulkan Ladies Koblenz / Weibern . For the 2015/2016 season, VfL Gummersbach and TuS Derschlag in the 3rd division (VfL Gummersbach II) and Oberliga (TuS Derschlag) formed the Handball Sport Gummersbach / Derschlag community at Lochtenbergh who acted as the coach of the third division team until December 2015.

For the 2017/18 season Lochtenbergh took over the first team of TV Strombach, which competed in the Mittelrhein Oberliga. With the HC Gelpe / Strombach syndicate, he was promoted to the fourth-class North Rhine regional league in 2020 .
