Middleburg Heights is a city in Cuyahoga County in the US state of Ohio . It is located 18.3 kilometers southwest of Cleveland , not far from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport , is 8.09 square miles (20.94 km²) and had (2000) 15,542 inhabitants, 94.6% of them white.
geography
The metropolitan area is immediately west of West 130th Street and extends on either side of Interstate 71 , the Cleveland- Columbus freeway . Neighboring communities are Brook Park in the north, Parma Heights and Parma in the east, Strongsville in the south and Berea in the west. The airport is just under six kilometers northwest of the city.
The highway divides the urban area in half. On the west side there are industrial parks and forests, on the east side comparatively relaxed residential areas. In the northeast corner is the Southland Shopping Center, a large specialist market zone .
history
Middleburg Heights dates back to Middleburg Township , which was staked out during the Connecticut Western Reserve's land survey . From this, Berea was founded in 1850, and then Brook Park in 1914. In order to prevent the incorporation of the rest of the township by neighboring communities, the rest of the township finally followed in 1928 as Middleburg Heights.
The area remained rural until shortly after the Second World War . It was not until the opening of the Southland Shopping Center (1950) and the Autobahn (1959) that the population increased from (1940) 1,225 to (1970) 12,367 and finally the current number. In addition to the specialist stores, the most important local employers are two hospitals and a freight center operated by the UPS parcel service .
