Midlothian is a city in Ellis County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located at the intersection of US Highways 67 and 287, as well as the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway and the Southern Pacific Railroad in northeastern Texas, 15 km northwest of Waxahachie and has a total area of ​​98.1 km², of which 0 , 4 km² of water.

history

The first settlers reached the area around 1800, but the colony did not grow until the Native American pacification of Sam Houston in 1843. The place later became known as Hawkins Springs , named after a spring on the land of William Alden Hawkins , one of the first settlers in this area. A log cabin served as a school, church and community room. The first post office was opened in 1877 and in 1882 or 1883 the place was renamed Midlothian, probably after the hometown of a Scottish railroad engineer on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway , who laid their tracks here in 1883.
