Migel-Max Schmeling (born February 17, 2000 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German soccer player . The defender is under contract with Borussia Dortmund .

Career

Schmeling was born in Gelsenkirchen and started playing football at the age of four at DJK Eintracht Erle from the district of the same name . In 2008 he was accepted into the junior performance center of the Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 and trained up to youth level C.

This was followed by a move to MSV Duisburg , in whose youth teams the defender was used in the B and A-Junior Bundesliga . Schmeling led both the U17s and the U19s as team captains in one season. At the beginning of 2018, he and Vincent Gembalies were allowed to take part in the winter training camp for professionals in Portugal .

For the second division season 2018/19 , the defensive player under head coach Ilija Gruew was integrated into the first team's squad as a " local player " after receiving a professional contract valid until June 2020 , but was still only used for the A-Juniors. In the 2-0 win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the first main round of the 2019/20 DFB Cup , coach Torsten Lieberknecht sent the 19-year-old onto the field shortly before the end, and he stood at 2-1 over 1860 Munich on the 9th third division matchday then in the Duisburg starting XI and was also able to contribute his first assist. As a result, the defender suffered several minor foot injuries and was left behind against the regular players Arne Sicker and Joshua Bitter . He played seven other league games, was autumn champion with MSV and missed direct promotion with him at the end of the season.

After his contract expired, Schmeling left the club and moved to Borussia Dortmund , where he is in the U23 squad .

Others

As a junior player at FC Schalke, Schmeling named Mario Götze from Dortmund's rival as his favorite player.
