The Migros Verteilbetrieb Neuendorf AG (MVN) is a Swiss logistics company based in Neuendorf . It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives (MGB) and serves as a logistics platform for Migros in the areas of non-food , near-food , frozen products and textiles . With a little more than 1,000 employees, the company is one of the largest private employers in the Canton of Solothurn .

Business activity

As one of the most important logistics centers in Switzerland, MVN is not only active in the areas of storage, packaging, picking and distribution for the Migros cooperatives and the subsidiaries of the MGB, but also for external customers. The lined up buildings extend over a length of several hundred meters between the Autobahn 1 and the Olten – Biel railway line , their storage area is 496,600 m². A total of 82,260 item positions are managed, the daily goods issue averages 10,426 pallets . 63% of this is transported by road and 37% by rail.

The MVN owns nine kilometers of private freight tracks and two of its own locomotives to handle rail freight transport . Since 1975, the MVN has its own company fire brigade with four vehicles (one pumper , multi-purpose vehicle , rescue vehicle and personnel carriers ). The MVN also has a textile warehouse in Volketswil .

The largest photovoltaic system in Switzerland is located on the roof of the extensive building complex in Neuendorf . It was installed by Tritec AG, a company of the Energiedienst Holding , and connected to the public grid in August 2013. The first expansion phase covered an area of 32,000 m² and had a maximum output of 5.21 MWp , which corresponds to the consumption of 1,300 households. With the construction of a new deep-freeze warehouse in October 2016, the facility was expanded by 6,220 m². This increased the maximum output to 7.8 MWp, which can now be used to supply 1,900 households.

history

The MGB began planning in 1970, construction work began in 1972 and the first departments moved in in 1974. Full operation began with a village festival on August 29, 1975. After the company had been managed by the MGB in the first few years, it made it independent on January 1, 1977 in the form of a subsidiary. In 1984 MGB bought the nearby Frigoscandia deep-freeze warehouse. Originally it was planned that the MVN should serve as Migros central warehouse for the whole of Switzerland. However, this did not fit in with the federal structure of the Migros Group and caused major financial losses in the early years. After a reorganization, the MVN concentrated on non-food, near-food and frozen products. In 1988, the MVN put its own track system into operation, and in 1999 the first high-bay warehouse . In 2004, a passerelle was built over the railroad tracks, which enables direct access between the deep-freeze warehouse and the main building. Between 2008 and 2016, new warehouses for frozen products and small parts as well as a new logistics center were added.
