Miguel Ángel García y Aráuz (born October 8, 1911 in Guatemala City , † December 28, 2003 ) was Bishop of Jalapa .

Life

Miguel Ángel García y Aráuz was ordained a priest on January 6, 1939 .

Pius XII. appointed him on May 16, 1944 auxiliary bishop in Guatemala and titular bishop of Sophene . The apostolic nuncio in Guatemala and El Salvador , Giuseppe Beltrami , consecrated him on September 3 of the same year as bishop ; Co- consecrators were Mariano Rossell y Arellano , Archbishop of Guatemala , and Jorge García Caballeros , Bishop of Quetzaltenango, Los Altos .

As a motto he chose Spes mea in Deo est . He attended all the sessions of the Second Vatican Council . The Pope named him Bishop of Jalapa on April 30, 1951 . In 1979 he founded - together with Ángela Eugenia Silva Sánchez - a community of nuns , the Congregación Marta y María . On January 29, 1987, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
