Jorge Mario Ávila del Águila CM (born April 19, 1924 in Guatemala , † May 3, 2008 in Jalapa , Guatemala) was Bishop of Jalapa.

Life

Jorge Mario Avila del Águila came on January 7, 1942, the Congregation of the Vincentians at and received on 7 November 1948, the sacrament of Holy Orders by Miguel Ángel García y Aráuz , Auxiliary Bishop of Guatemala.

In 1978 he was by Paul VI. appointed Apostolic Administrator of El Peten in Guatemala. 1982 Pope named him John Paul II. To the titular of Nasai and ordered him to the Apostolic Vicar of El Petén. In 1987 he was appointed bishop of the Jalapa diocese based in Jalapa, a city about 100 km east of Guatemala City at the foot of the Jumay volcano and the Alcoba mountains in the middle of a highland plateau at 1362 m altitude. He was ordained bishop on January 15, 1983, by the then nuncio in Guatemala, Oriano Quilici ; Co- consecrators were his predecessor Miguel Angel García y Aráuz and Jaime Brufau Maciá , Bishop of San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

For many years he was chairman of the Bishops' Conference of Guatemala (CEG). In 2001, his resignation was granted by John Paul II.
