Julio Edgar Cabrera Ovalle (born August 22, 1939 in San Juan Comalapa ) is a Guatemalan clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Jalapa .

Life

The Archbishop of Lima , Juan Cardinal Landázuri Ricketts, OFM , ordained him a priest on December 1, 1963 . He worked as a vicar and pastor in pastoral care, he was also the rain of the seminary in Guatemala City .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Santa Cruz del Quiché on October 31, 1986 . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on January 6 of the next year; Co-consecrators were Eduardo Martínez Somalo , substitute for the State Secretariat , and José Tomás Sánchez , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples .

On December 5, 2001, he was appointed Bishop of Jalapa. On March 30, 2020, Pope Francis accepted Julio Edgar Cabrera Ovalle's resignation due to reasons of age.

Honors

The theological faculty of the University of Freiburg ( Freiburg im Üechtland ) awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1997.
