Mihály Kótai (born August 12, 1976 in Nyíregyháza ) is a former Hungarian boxer .

Career

His greatest successes as an amateur were fifth place at the 1997 World Championships in Budapest (quarter-final defeat against Ercüment Aslan ), the Hungarian championship title in 1999 and third place at the 2000 European Championships in Tampere . After victories against Oleg Saitow and Hussein Bayram , he lost it in the semifinals against Valeri Braschnik. He suffered two more losses in his amateur career against Jani Rauhala and Lucian Bute .

From October 2000 to September 2010 he played 42 professional fights in Hungary, Poland, the Netherlands, Great Britain, the USA, Puerto Rico, Germany and Ukraine, of which he won 36, 16 of them prematurely, with five defeats and one draw. His greatest successes were the international championship of the WBC and the world championship of the IBO in the light middleweight division. In the course of his career he defeated Gotthard Hinteregger , William Gare, Manning Galloway and Raul Bejarano, among others .
