Mihály Mayer (born January 31, 1941 in Kisdorog , Southern Transdanubia , Hungary ) is Bishop Emeritus of Pécs .

Life

Mihály Mayer was ordained a priest for the diocese of Pécs on June 21, 1964 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Giru Marcelli and auxiliary bishop in Pécs on December 23, 1988 . The Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest , László Cardinal Paskai OFM , donated him the episcopal ordination on February 11, 1989; Co- consecrators were István Seregély , Archbishop of Eger , and László Dankó , Archbishop of Kalocsa .

On July 3, 1989 he was appointed Bishop of Pécs.

In autumn 2010 serious allegations against Mayer were reported in the Hungarian press. Then the public prosecutor should investigate Mayer in 40 different criminal cases. Mayer denied his involvement in the alleged offenses, but was still forced to resign. Pope Benedict XVI accepted his resignation on January 19, 2011.
