István Seregély (2010)

István Seregély (born March 13, 1931 in Szombathely , Western Transdanubia , Hungary ; † December 31, 2018 in Nyíregyháza ) was a Hungarian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Eger .

Life

István Seregély was ordained a priest on June 19, 1955 and then worked as parish priest and chaplain.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Eger on June 5, 1987. He was ordained episcopate on July 25th of the same year by the Archbishop of Esztergom , László Paskai OFM ; Co- consecrators were Izidor István Marosi , Bishop of Vác , and Endre Kovács OCist , Auxiliary Bishop in Eger.

On March 15, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
