Mihai Marinescu

Mihai Marinescu (born January 25, 1989 in Brașov ) is a Romanian racing car driver . He competed in Formula 2 from 2010 to 2012 . In 2013 he started in Formula Renault 3.5 .

Career

After having been active in karting for a few years , he made his debut in formula racing in 2005 . He started both in the Belgian Formula Renault 1.6, in which he finished third overall, and in the Italian Formula Junior 1600, in which he won the runner-up title behind Pasquale Di Sabatino . He also took part in four races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . After the season he took part in the winter series of the Italian Formula Renault and finished ninth. In 2006, Marinescu again contested the entire season of two racing series. He finished sixth in the Northern European and eleventh in the Italian Formula Renault. He also competed in three French Formula Renault races. In 2007, Marinescu improved to fifth place in the Italian Formula Renault and was also eleventh in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. He also took part in two races each of the British Formula 3 Championship (national class as a guest starter ) and the FIA GT3 European Championship .

In 2008, Marinescu's main focus was on European Formula BMW , in which he finished eleventh in the championship at the end of the season. In addition, he competed in American and Pacific Formula BMW races as a guest driver and in the international Formula Masters . 2009 Marinescu was no cockpit for an entire season and started for two teams in 11 of 17 races of the 2009 season of Formula Renault 3.5 . He scored no points and finished 30th overall at the end of the season.

In 2010 , Marinescu switched to the FIA Formula 2 Championship and finished eleventh overall at the end of the season. In 2011 he completed his second Formula 2 season. With a win, he finished the season in fifth place in the overall standings. After the season he took part for Rapax in the GP2 Final 2011 and was 24. 2012 Marinescu played his third Formula 2 season. He won two races and once again finished fifth in the drivers' championship.

In 2013 , Marinescu returned to Formula Renault 3.5. He got a cockpit at the new Zeta Corse racing team . After taking a break from the third race weekend, he finally lost his cockpit after the fifth race weekend. Eighth place was his best result. He was 25th overall. He also made two guest starts in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy , a touring car series.
