Mijo Udovčić (born September 11, 1920 in Stara Jošava , † April 8, 1984 in Zagreb ) was a Yugoslav chess grandmaster .

Life

Udovčić worked as a judge in Zagreb . He acquired the national championship title in Zadar in 1950 , international master in 1957 and grand master in 1962 . Udovčić won the Yugoslav Championship in Zenica in 1963 together with Borislav Ivkov . With the Yugoslav national team he reached second place at the Chess Olympiad in 1964 and at the European Team Championships in 1961 and 1965. At the two European team championships, he also achieved the second-best individual result on his board (1961 on the sixth, 1965 on the eighth board).

When the Elo numbers were introduced in July 1971, Udovčić was listed with a rating of 2460, but since he then no longer played an Elo-rated game, he was no longer listed in the Elo list from 1974. His highest historical rating was 2618. In January 1953 he was 39th in the world ranking list.
