Michael Donald "Mike" Gallagher (born October 3, 1941 in Yonkers , New York , † October 3, 2013 in Pittsfield , Vermont ) was an American cross-country skier .

In 1959 Gallagher was able to win his first title: he was national champion in cross-country skiing in the junior class. In 1964 he first took part in the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , Austria. Over 15 kilometers he finished 38th, together with Mike Elliott , Jim Shea and John Bower in the 4x10 km relay in 13th place. In Grenoble , France , he went to his next Olympic participation in 1968 over 15, 30 and 50 kilometers and reached places 34, 27 and 22. The relay with him, Mike Elliott, Bob Gray and John Bower was able to increase to 12th place . Gallagher's last Winter Olympics as an active player was in Sapporo , Japan, in 1972 , when he started the 30-kilometer individual race and finished 30th. In the relay race over 4x10 kilometers he managed again a 12th place together with Tim Caldwell , Larry Martin and Mike Elliott.

In addition to his career as a cross-country skier, he also frequently appeared as a cyclist.

Gallagher graduated from the University of Colorado . Between 1980 and 1986 he coached the US national cross-country skiing team and participated in the 1980 , 1984 and 1992 Winter Olympics . He also worked with various ski manufacturers to advance the development of fiberglass skis.
