Miguel Eduardo "Mike" Hansen Mejias (born April 17,  1970 in Torrejón de Ardoz ) is a former Spanish - American basketball player .

career

Hansen, the son of a Spaniard and an American father who was stationed as a soldier in Spain, is a dual citizen (Spain and the United States). He played in his hometown of Torrejón as a youth and then in the youth team at Estudiantes Madrid . Hansen was at the European Cadet  Championships in Hungary in August 1987, with 15.8 points per match, the best scorer in the Spanish selection.

In order to continue his basketball education, the 1.84-meter-measuring player went to his father's home country, played at the University Heights Academy in Hopkinsville (US state of Kentucky ) and in the 1988/89 season at the University of Tennessee at Martin . He then moved to Louisiana State University and, according to the NCAA rules, had to pause in the 1989/90 season. Between 1990 and 1993, Hansen was noticed by "LSU" as a good three-point shooter, hit 113 three-point throws and at the time of his departure was second on the all-time list of the university team's best. His highest score in a game during this period was seven threesomes hit (January 1991). His best season in the service of Louisiana State University was the game year 1990/91, when he was  the team's third best scorer with 12.7 points per game behind Shaquille O'Neal and Vernel Singleton . During his time in Louisiana Hansen was appointed to the Spanish senior team and took part in the 1991 European Championship in Italy  . He won bronze with Spain at the European Championships, but was rarely used in the course of the tournament and scored a total of nine points in three games, six of them in the game for third place against France.

Upon returning from the United States, Hansen rejoined Estudiantes Madrid, but this time with the men's team in the ACB League . He came in the course of the 1993/94 season to 5.4 points per encounter and moved in the run-up to the 1994/95 game year within the league to Forum Valladolid . He stayed in Valladolid until 1997, with CB Ciudad de Huelva in the 1997/98 season he achieved the best points average of his career in the top Spanish division, namely 10.4 per encounter. In 1998/99 Hansen was also under contract with Recreativos Orenes Murcia in the ACB league and then moved to Germany  in the basketball league .

From 1999 to 2002 he was under contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen . He also took part in European Cup competitions with the works team: in 1999/2000 and 2001/2002 at the Korać Cup and in 2000/2001 at the SuproLeague . In his first season in the Rhineland, Hansen made an immediate impression, scoring 15 points per appearance in the Bundesliga, making him the team's best scorer. With a hit rate from the free-throw line of 89.1 percent, he was better than everyone else in the league this season, and his 121 three-point throws were by far the top score in the Bundesliga. In the Korać Cup of the 1999/2000 season, Hansen posted an even higher score than in the Bundesliga with 17.6 per game. He reached the final series with Leverkusen in 2000, where they lost to Alba Berlin . In the special edition of the Basketball Bundesliga for the 2000/01 season, Hansen was referred to as "the three-man machine for the giants from the Rhine" and "one of the leaders in the Leverkusen team". His points statistics in the Bundesliga remained almost the same in 2000/01 (15.1 points / game), although he scored slightly less than in the previous season with 108 three-pointers, but his hit rate for throws from long range was 44.8 percent compared to 40 , 3 percent higher in the preseason. Hansen advanced to the Bundesliga semi-finals with Leverkusen in the 2000/01 season. In his third year in Leverkusen he got 10.6 points per game in the Bundesliga.

Hansen went back to his home country, played for the first division club Cáceres CB in 2002/03 and then accepted an offer from Bundesliga club Brandt Hagen in the run-up to the 2003/04 season  . He was on the field for Hagen in ten Bundesliga games, averaged 6.6 points and was team captain. In December 2003, the team had to withdraw from the game due to bankruptcy.

In the 2004/05 season Hansen played with the fourth division CD Maristas in Palencia and from 2005 to 2008 with CB Zamora in the fourth and fifth highest division in the country. In his last season in performance-related basketball, he scored an average of 16.9 points per game for Zamora in 2007/08.

He later became the club president of CB Ciudad de Valladolid.
