Mike Ouellette began his career as a hockey player with the Merritt Centennials , for which he was active in the 2000/01 season in the British Columbia Hockey League . The attacker then played for the Dartmouth College team from 2002 to 2006 before making his professional ice hockey debut for the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League towards the end of the 2005/06 season , for which he prepared a goal in three games.

From 2006 to 2009 Ouellette was in the franchise of the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League under contract, for which he however never played. Instead, he ran for their farm teams , the Charlotte Checkers from the ECHL and the Hartford Wolf Pack from the AHL. The Canadian then signed with KHL Medveščak Zagreb , which had been accepted into the Austrian ice hockey league before the 2009/10 season.

For the 2010/11 season Ouellette moved to Germany to the Kassel Huskies . After the club had been dissolved before the start of the season, Ouellette signed in September 2010 at EC Graz 99ers in the Austrian ice hockey league.

Between 2011 and 2013, Ouellette was under contract with the EHC Linz and won the Austrian championship title with it in 2012 . He spent the 2013/14 season with the Vienna Capitals before returning to Linz for the 2014/15 season.
