Mike Wangerin (born November 17, 1963 ) is a former German soccer player who played for BSG Stahl Brandenburg in the GDR Oberliga in 1986/87 .

Athletic career

The 1.80 m tall Wangerin played until April 1983 in the company sports community (BSG) progress Wittstock in the third-rate district league Potsdam . In May 1983 he was called up for military service, and during this time he played for the army sports community Vorwärts Neubrandenburg , which was represented in the second-rate GDR league . After completing his military service, Wangerin joined the BSG Stahl Hennigsdorf in the Potsdam district league in November 1984 .

After the top division Stahl Brandenburg had lost two of their offensive forces after their first season in the highest GDR soccer league with Markus Wuckel and Siegfried Malyska , the 21-year-old Wangerin was brought in to fill up the squad for the 1985/86 season. He was not used in the league team this season. Nevertheless, he was reported again for the first team for the 1986/87 season. He was also used on the first day of the league game for 17 minutes, but was only a substitute after that. By the end of the season he was called up in another five league games, but was only in the starting line-up three times. In the UEFA Cup match Stahl Brandenburg - Coleraine FC (1-0) on October 1, 1986, he was substituted on in the 89th minute.

After the season, those responsible at BSG Stahl saw no prospects for Wangerin and sent him back to Stahl Hennigsdorf. There he helped the team to the championship in the district league and promotion to the GDR league. In the GDR league season 1988/89 Wangerin was the undisputed regular player with 32 appearances in 34 point games and four goals. In 1990 he was taken over by the newly founded FC Stahl Hennigsdorf, with whom he played in the third-class Oberliga Nordost until 1992 after the reorganization of the league system in unified Germany .
