Mike Zero

Mike Zero (born April 27, 1971 as Michael Köhn in Dortmund ; † November 26, 2018 ) was a German musician .

Life

In the early 1990s, Zero founded the punk rock metal band The Beat Machine. After the group broke up, Zero played in various small punk bands until he met Chris van Helsing in 1997. He played guitar for Phillip Boa , but the two wanted to start something of their own and so they founded the Industrial Band Product. The band was completed with Marcel Zürcher from Hamburg. Produced by Rodrigo González ( Die Ärzte ), Product contributed a song to the PlayStation game MTV Snowboard .

1997 Zero founded the band DKay.com together with Jürgen Engler . Zero played bass and sang background vocals, Chris Van Helsing and Marcel Zürcher played guitar. In 1998 Zero moved to Hamburg. DKay.com released two studio albums on Zomba Records: 2000 Decaydenz and 2002 Deeper into the Heart of Dysfunction . They played two tours with Gary Numan (2000) and the Genitorturers (2002). In 2002 Zero completed an apprenticeship as a media designer at the Akademie für Werbung Grafik Druck in Hamburg . Two years later he moved back to his hometown Dortmund for private reasons. After a brief engagement as a sound engineer at the Dortmund Opera House , he took over a trendy bar in Dortmund.

In collaboration with producer Siggi Bemm, Zero's solo debut album Zeroism was created in the summer of 2008 and was released on Wolverine Records . With the exception of the drums, he recorded all the tracks on his own. For his second album, Zero received support from some guest musician friends. His companion and friend Chris van Helsing also joined the band. Was published The Shape of Things to Come 2010 from Ritchie label Drumming Monkey Records . In April 2013, Zero returned to Wolverine Records and released his third album Now . In 2015, another album Catch 22 was released on Woodhouse Records.

Zero died on November 26, 2018 after a long illness. He left behind his wife and two children.
