Michael "Mike" Zigomanis (born January 17, 1981 in North York , Ontario ) is a Canadian - Greek ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League since July 2013 .
Career
Mike Zigomanis began his career as an ice hockey player in the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 1997 to 2001 for the Kingston Frontenacs . During this time he was first selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1999 in the second round as a total of 64th player by the Buffalo Sabers . Since this did not take him under contract in the following two years, the attacker could be selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2001 in the second round as a total of 46 players by the Carolina Hurricanes .
For the Hurricanes he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season and won the Stanley Cup in 2006 , but with 21 appearances he did not complete the necessary number of games to be entered on the cup. Most of his time in the Carolina Hurricanes franchise , however, he spent with their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Lowell Lock Monsters . On January 30, 2006, Zigomanis was transferred to the St. Louis Blues , for which he was only two games on the ice until the end of the season, while he ran 32 times for their AHL farm team, the Peoria Rivermen . From 2006 to 2008, the Canadian played for the Phoenix Coyotes and their AHL farm team San Antonio Rampage before receiving a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins before the 2008/09 season , with whom he won the Stanley Cup.
At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he was signed by the Toronto Marlies , for whom he achieved twelve assists in seven AHL games. In mid-November 2009 he was signed by Djurgården IF . In the summer of 2010 he returned to North America, where the Canadian-Greek dual citizen played again in the three following seasons, mainly for the Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League and during this time he held the position of assistant captain for the last two seasons. In July 2013, Zigomanis signed a one-year contract with Rochester Americans .
