Milaim Rama (born February 29, 1976 in Žitinje near Vitina , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Swiss football player .

Career

At the age of 17, Milaim Rama moved with his family to Switzerland and shortly afterwards played as a hobby footballer for FC Interlaken in the lower leagues, where he quickly attracted attention with his performances. In July 1997, FC Thun secured the services of the talented striker, who immediately became an integral part of the team of the then NLB league team . During the first four seasons for the Bernese Oberland , his goal scoring was constant but not outstanding (2, 5, 8 and 7 goals). In the 2001/02 season he started to fly high and scored 25 goals in 35 games under the new coach Hanspeter Latour . He helped the Thuners to rise to the top Swiss league, which the club had only achieved once before in its history (1954/55 for one year).

In his first season in the NLA , the striker , who has meanwhile been naturalized in Interlaken, played 33 games and scored 20 goals. In the following season, 2003/04, he asserted himself in the league now named Axpo Super League and scored 10 goals in 34 games in his account. His outstanding achievements resulted in a steep rise that led him to the Swiss national team . After playing for Switzerland in two friendly matches against Germany and Slovenia , he was also called up for the Euro 2004 in Portugal. In this tournament he came to an employment when he was substituted on in the last group game of the Swiss against France .

In the same year, the midfielder surprisingly moved to the German regional league for FC Augsburg . His stint in the northern neighboring country was short-lived: it was limited to 13 missions. Milaim Rama decided to return to Switzerland in summer 2005 and went to FC Schaffhausen . He was promptly nominated again for the Swiss national football team , but no longer used. In Schaffhausen, where he scored 5 goals in 26 matches, Rama did not last long either. On July 3, 2006, he returned to his home club, FC Thun.

A year later, a difficult phase for the Bernese Oberland Association suddenly followed. Although FC Thun played the Cup semi-final against FC Basel on February 27, 2008 , they lost it as well as the fight against the looming, forced relegation to the second-highest division. From the 2008/09 season onwards, FC Thun played in the Challenge League . Milaim Rama remained loyal to the club and scored his 100th championship goal in the dress of FC Thun on November 9, 2008 against FC Biel-Bienne . On January 13, 2009, the seven-time international suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his right knee at the Hallenmasters Winterthur . The committed striker, who scored ten goals for Thun in the preliminary round, was absent for the entire second half of the season.

From the following season Rama was again part of the team under the new coach Murat Yakin . His next anniversary followed. At the beginning of the second half of the 2009/10 season on February 24, 2010, he played his 300th championship game for FC Thun against FC Wohlen . This season he scored a total of seven goals. Thanks in part to his achievements, FC Thun was promoted back to the Axpo Super League after two years in the second-highest division . On March 16, 2010 it was announced that the contract with the now 34-year-old Milaim Rama had been extended for a further year to June 30, 2011.

The 2010/11 season started well for Milaim Rama, although he never played 90 minutes more, but acted as a substitute. For example, he made his fourth appearance in the sixth game on August 21, 2010. After Basel took the lead in the 81st minute, Rama was substituted on in the 83rd minute and scored the decisive equalizer three minutes later to make it 1-1. With that he saved his team a point with which the Thuners could hold the 2nd place in the table. After that, a real streak of bad luck began for the audience favorite: At the end of October 2010, Rama tore a muscle fiber during training and was out until the end of the preliminary round. After his recovery, he completed the preparation for the second half of the season with the team, but in the last test match he broke his arm and had to forego further appearances until the end of February 2011. At the cup game against Neuchâtel Xamax on March 2, 2011, he finally made his comeback, but after 46 minutes he was injured again - he broke the same arm again. A further deployment of Rama is expected in early April at the earliest.

From October 2013, Milaim Rama wanted to play with his brother Ramush for FC Oberdiessbach, but then gave up this opportunity and instead ended his football career.
