Milan Galić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Милан Галић , born March 8, 1938 in Maleševci ( Bosansko Grahovo ), † September 13, 2014 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav football player.

Career

National

After Gilić grew up in Zrenjanin and played six years for Proleter Zrenjanin in his youth, he came to Belgrade in 1958. There he spent eight years with Partizan Belgrade and was Yugoslav champion in 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1965 .

Galic was also a member of the team that lost to Real Madrid in the 1965/66 European Cup .

In 1966, at the age of 28, he moved abroad and won the Belgian championship twice with Standard Liège in 1969 and 1970. Between 1970 and 1973 he played for Stade Reims . After that, he ended his career and returned to Belgrade. After his active career, he worked for the Yugoslav Football Association. He died in 2014 at the age of 76.

International

Galic made his debut in the national team on May 31, 1959 in a 2-0 home win over Bulgaria . He made 51 international matches and scored 37 goals. This made him the second best marksman in his country.

In 1960 he scored the first goal in the first European football championship on July 6 in France and was runner-up with his team. Two months later he won the gold medal with his country at the 1960 Olympic Games . With 7 goals he was the top scorer.

At the 1962 World Cup , he scored one goal against Uruguay and two goals against Colombia in the preliminary group . He played his last international match on October 9, 1965 in Paris in a 1-0 draw against France.
