Miles Simon

Miles Julian Simon (born November 21,  1975 in Stockholm ) is an American basketball coach and former player.

career

Simon's mother is Norwegian , his father is American. As a student, Simon, a 1.92 meter tall builder, played at Mater Dei High School in the US state of California . From 1994 to 1998 he was a member of the University of Arizona  team. In 1997 he won the NCAA championship with Arizona and was named best player of the final tournament. In the championship year he was the second best scorer of the university team behind Michael Dickerson with 18.4 points per game . Overall, Simon achieved 1664 points during his university days, which corresponds to an average of 14.6 per match.

The Orlando Magic team  secured  the rights to Simon in the 1998 NBA draft process (second round, 42nd place). He was plagued by injury concerns in the 1998/99 season (knee) and only played five NBA games for Orlando (0.4 points / encounter). He took a break in the 1999/2000 season, in 2000/01 Simon was initially under contract with Maccabi Ironi Raanana in Israel for a short time , then with the second division club Mabo Prefabbricati Livorno in Italy (32 games: 24.7 points / game). Simon was initially registered in Italy as a player with Czech citizenship, but doubts arose as to the validity of his identity card. The passport was declared invalid and Simon blocked by the Italian association.

In the 2001/02 season Simon was with the Dakota Wizards in the US league Continental Basketball Association (CBA) under contract, won the championship with the team and was named the best player of the CBA season. He then played briefly in the same season for Metis Varese in the Italian Serie A , but only came to three missions due to an injury. In 2002/03 he was back in the Dakota Wizards' squad, and in the 2003 summer season Simon played for the Guaros de Lara in Venezuela .

For the Turkish first division club Tuborg Izmir, he played six league appearances in the 2003/04 season. The last stop of his playing career was the Italian first division club Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia, for whom he played in four Serie A games in 2004/05.

At the end of July 2005, Simon became a member of the staff of the University of Arizona and took up a position as assistant coach. With the resignation of head coach Lute Olson in October 2008, Simon's tenure at the university ended, he subsequently worked for the television station ESPN and was used as a commentator at NCAA games. He continued to coach and work for youth teams in California, basketball schools and one-to-one training with players like Chris Bosh and Klay Thompson . Simon also worked for the US Basketball Federation, being the assistant coach of the U16 national team, which became American champions in 2015, and of the U17 selection that won the World Cup in 2016. In 2017 he was the chief coach of the US junior team, which defeated a world selection at the Nike Hoop Summit .

At the end of June 2017, Simon became an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers NBA team .
