history
After the start of the Cold War, the construction of a new started NATO -Flugplatzes 1951. The construction work was completed in 1956 and the following year Colmar home base was the up to this point in Lahr past 13 all-weather fighter squadron, 13e escadre de chasse tout temps (13e ECTT). The association consisting of the two hunting groups ( Escadron de chasse ) EC 1/13 "Artois" and EC 2/13 "Alpes" flew the F-86K alongside a handful of T-33s .
The conversion to the Mirage IIIC began in April 1962 and just three years later the replacement with the E series of the Mirage III began. With the EC 3/13 "Auvergne" a third flying group was set up in 1972. This flew Mirage 5F built for Israel , which could not be delivered due to an arms embargo that existed at the time. In 1972 the group was considered the most modern hunting association in Europe.
At the beginning of November 1992 the first Mirage F1CT arrived in Colmar and the previous 1st and 3rd groups "Artois" and "Auvergne" were replaced by EC 1/13 "Normandie-Niémen" and EC 3/13 "Alsace" in 1993 . The 2nd group, 2/13 "Alpes", was disbanded in June 1994 and the 13th Fighter Squadron in June 1995.
The two remaining hunting groups became independent at this point and were given the names 1/30 “Alsace” and 2/30 “Normandie-Niémen”. The former was dissolved in July 2008 and the latter in July 2009. Base 132 was closed in June 2010.
