history
In the late 14th century, the Tower House Balgonie Castle was built near the present village . Since the time of Charles I , the Balgonie estate belonged to the possessions of the Earls of Leven , who also bear the subordinate title of Lord Balgonie . In 1832 Charles Balfour of Whittingehame House bought the property. As the part of the name Milton ("Milltown") suggests, there were several textile mills and a grain mill, which in 1841 offered a total of 265 jobs, in the village in the 19th century. Other jobs were offered by weaving mills and spinning mills.
