The Minderach is a flowing body of water in the Vorarlberg communities of Bildstein , Schwarzach and Wolfurt . The source of the Minderach and for a feeder of the Gschwendbach is the Farnachmoos , a moor complex (raised bog ) that has formed in a saddle position in the border area between the Granitic Molasse and the Weißach layers in Oberbildstein / Farnach . The starting point of the Minderach is just below the “Haag” road from Farnach to Oberbildstein, just before the confluence with the “Gaisbirn” and “Gallin” roads. It flows into the Rickenbach in Wolfurt at kilometers of water (GwKm) 0.89 .
Surname
Minderach means "minor oh" (in the sense of: "minor oh"). The name is only used in Vorarlberg for this body of water. The name of the river was in turn the inspiration for a parcel and a street in Schwarzach.
Course and tributaries
From the source to the mouth, the Minderach flows in a relatively straight line from north-east to south-west. At GwKm 1.25, at the beginning of the settlement area, the Minderach changes direction in a large curve to the north-west and runs relatively straight and heavily built up to the mouth in the Rickenbach. The Minderach runs through the municipality of Schwarzach before flowing into the municipality of Wolfurt shortly before its confluence .
The Minderach is a geographical boundary along its course. It borders z. B. Farnach north of Bildstein. In the lower area, between the Minderach and the Schwarzach rivers, lies the terraced Linzenberg , over which the old country road used to run into the Bregenzerwald .
In its entire course, the Minderach has only three relevant, unnamed, small tributaries from the north (in the upper area at GwKm 2.94; 2.275 and 2.01).
Economic use
The Minderach was probably already used for a mill in the upper course, around 1 km and 100 meters in altitude below the source (around GwKm 3.70), the "Mühle" plot is located here.
In the factory of Carl Zuppinger in Wolfurt, the water of the Minderach and the Mühlbach (a diversion of the Schwarzach) was used in the 19th century with an undershot water wheel , which was located here under the floor of the factory. The hydropower had already been used here for two whetstone grinding .
Flood
The Minderach is normally a fairly calm body of water, but has also caused severe flooding and crop failures in the past. This regularly in connection with torrential rainfalls. On August 12, 1752 z. B. the Schwarzach and the Minderach flooded the community of Schwarzach and cut the road connection to the community of Wolfurt for over a week. In 1879 the Minderach flooded a large part of the populated area of Schwarzach again. From 1939 to 1940 the lower reaches of the Minderach were channeled by the Reich Labor Service . On July 11, 1957, the Schwarzach and the Minderach flooded their banks again. In 1980/1981 the Minderach was also fortified and expanded in the Eulentobel.
