Mine Countermeasure Vessels Operational Sea Training

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mine Countermeasure Vessels Operational Sea Training ( MOST ) of the Belgian-Dutch mine warfare school EGUERMIN is a training for anti-mine vehicles (MCMV) of NATO and allied navies .

history

MOST was initiated in 1986 by the navies of the Channel Committee responsible at the time for naval cooperation in the English Channel area under the original name Mine Countermeasures Vessel Operational Sea Test as a test of the operational capability of MCMV and carried out for the first time in Ostend in 1990 . The training offered by the British Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) served as a model, but it was tailored to larger warships. Participants were initially MCMV of the Belgian , British , German and Dutch navies. In 2003 the course was moved to Zeebrugge .

Since the establishment of the Most, it has evolved from a review to an education. At the same time, the number of participating nations has increased. In addition to the initiators, MCMVs from France , Italy , Canada , Norway , Poland and Spain are now taking part in MOST. Since then, over 150 MCMV have completed the MOST program.

Tasks and content

The content of the course includes defense procedures against sea mines using vehicles such as minesweepers and minehunters .

The program lasts two weeks and begins with the staff harbor check of the vehicle to be trained. The first week of training provides general training in the nautical handling of the boat, including emergency rolls. The training takes place in the port and at sea, with the vehicles returning to the port daily. The second week of training is known as the Weekly War and consists of a multi-day, realistic scenario at sea. It ends with an overall assessment of the vehicle.

The fact that MCMVs from several nations participate in the program serves to standardize procedures and promotes the ability to work together in the alliance.
