The Ministry of Buol-Schauenstein of the Austrian Empire under the chairman of the Ministerial Conference Karl Ferdinand von Buol-Schauenstein held office from April 11, 1852 to August 21, 1859.

history

Buol-Schauenstein's predecessor was Prime Minister Felix Fürst zu Schwarzenberg , who died on April 5, 1852. After his death, the position of prime minister was not filled again. Karl Ferdinand von Buol-Schauenstein succeeded him as Chairman of the Ministerial Conference and Foreign Minister. The Minister of the Interior, Alexander von Bach, was the de facto head of government .

Buol-Schauenstein's undecided stance in the Crimean War had an unfavorable effect on Austro-Russian relations. In 1859 his ultimatum led to the unfortunate war with Piedmont-Sardinia . He resigned on August 21, 1859. His policy was considered to have failed.

Johann Bernhard Graf von Rechberg and Rothenlöwen ( Ministry of Rechberg ) succeeded him as Chairman of the Ministerial Conference and Foreign Minister .

Individual evidence

  1. Die Neue Deutsche Biographie (Volume 3, 1957) judges his policy: “He failed because he was unable to get his inconsistent emperor through the correct knowledge of the threat to the Austrian existence from Prussia and Russia and did not make the necessary Italian sacrifices would have."
