Miquel Batllori

Miquel Batllori (born October 1, 1909 in Barcelona , † February 9, 2003 in Sant Cugat del Vallès ) was a Spanish Jesuit , historian, Romanist and Catalanist .

life and work

Batllori, whose mother was Cuban , studied history and law at the University of Barcelona from 1925 to 1928 and entered the Jesuit order in 1929 . After further studies of philosophy and theology (partly in Avigliano and Sanremo ) he was ordained a priest in 1940 and in 1941 received his doctorate at the University of Madrid with the work Francisco Gustá, apologista y crítico (1744-1816). From 1941 to 1947 he taught at the Jesuit college in Palma and worked with Ramon Llull . From 1947 to 1981 he lived researching in Rome, from 1952 as professor of church history at the Pontifical Gregorian University , from 1954 to 1958 as director of the Historical Institute of the Society of Jesus and from 1951 to 1981 as editor of the journal Archivum Historicum Societatis Iesu . He was a member of the Real Academia de la Historia (1958), the Institut d'Estudis Catalans and the Acadèmia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona . He has received numerous prizes and honors and has received numerous honorary doctorates.
