Miriam Bliese (* 1978 in Wuppertal ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

life and work

Miriam Bliese was born in Wuppertal, but grew up in Berlin and Paris . Her parents are the actors Eleonore Weisgerber and Joachim Bliese . Her younger brother Johannes Bliese is a cultural scientist and social worker who is also active in the Berlin hip-hop scene , where he performs under the stage name Joe Madog .

After internships and assistant directorships at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg and the Sophiensælen Berlin , Miriam Bliese studied German , philosophy and musicology at the Free University of Berlin from 2000 . At the same time she worked as a freelance writer for the TV broadcaster Arte .

Studies at the DFFB

In 2005 Bliese began studying directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB) . In 2008 her short film Waltz was shown at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the Achtung Berlin Festival.

With the feature film 17 Years Later (2010), a directorial work by her DFFB fellow student Hendrik Reichel, Bliese undertook an excursion into the acting field: She played the second leading role alongside Kathleen Morgeneyer . The first third of this story of two women from East and West Germany, whose paths cross three times, was released in 2008 as a 30-minute medium-length film The Red Hour .

In 2011, Bliese directed the 30-minute feature film Tango , which was commissioned by Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg . In the same year she filmed a documentary observation of the versatility of Berlin after the first snowfall with Stille Tage . The short film was shown in 2012 at goEast - Festival of Central and Eastern European Film . Bliese also took part in the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2012 .

At the door and The pieces of love

Miriam Bliese's five-minute short film An der Tür , which premiered at the Hof International Film Festival in 2013 , was shown at over a hundred film festivals, including New Directors / New Films in New York . The film also won several awards, such as B. the Short Tiger Award , which meant inclusion in the German Films short film program Next Generation Short Tiger , which was shown at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2014 . At the door , the German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) also recognized it as short film of the month and was given the rating of “Particularly valuable”.

At the door tells of a separated couple who are talking on the intercom during a routine handover of their child and who come closer for a moment. This basic constellation also served Bliese as the starting point for her first long feature film, Die Einzelteile der Liebe . The drama of a pair of lovers, narrated in forwards and backwards, who now live separately but is fighting for custody of their son, was premiered at the Berlinale 2019 in the Perspektive Deutsches Kino section and was shown in German on August 22, 2019 Cinemas. The individual parts of love is also Bliese's graduation film at the DFFB.

In addition to her directing activities, Miriam Bliese also works as a translator of French scripts and films. She lives in Berlin.
