Miriam Meyer (* 1974 in Osterode am Harz ) is a German opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Meyer was born in Osterode am Harz . After graduating from high school, she first began studying medicine in Hanover , and a little later, parallel to this, studying singing at the University of Music and Theater there with W. Reimer. Soon afterwards she switched to Ulf Bästlein at the Lübeck University of Music , where she graduated with distinction in the spring of 2002.

She attended master classes with Renata Scotto , Irwin Gage , Charles Spencer , Kai Wessel and Esther de Bros . During her studies, she appeared as a permanent member of the ensemble at the Hildesheim City Theater from 2000 to 2002 , where she sang Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni , Anne in Grigori Frid's monooper Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank , Marzelline in Fidelio and Christel in the bird dealer .

From 2002/03 to 2007/08 Meyer was a member of the ensemble of the Komische Oper Berlin , where she performed as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro , Ännchen im Freischütz , Marcelline in Fidelio , Valencienne in The Funny Widow , Wed in The Land of Smiles , Adele in Die Fledermaus , Musette in La Bohème and as Katka in the world premiere of the opera The Rider with the Wind in His Hair .

Miriam Meyer now works as a freelance opera and concert singer.

She sang under well-known conductors such as Michail Jurowski , Wladimir Jurowski , Kirill Petrenko , Constantinos Carydis , Friedemann Layer , Andreas Spering , Enoch zu Guttenberg , Ton Koopman and Hans-Christoph Rademann .

Meyer has made guest appearances at renowned festivals and in international music centers. At the Handel Festival in Halle she was a. a. as Clizia in the Handel opera Teseo , directed by Axel Köhler . Guest performances with this production followed at the Bayreuth Barock, in Winterthur and Potsdam Sanssouci, at the Royal Theater Bury St. Edmund and in London. Under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann , she has performed in numerous concerts with works by JS Bach, JL Bach, Handel, Telemann or Vivaldi in collaboration with the Dresden Chamber Choir and the NDR Choir, including at the Magdeburg Telemann Festival, the Dresden Music Festival, the festival of early music in the Erzgebirge as well as in the Alte Oper Frankfurt and in Hamburg. Various radio recordings from NDR and MDR were made. With the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir under Ton Koopman, the soprano performed in concerts with works by JS Bach and D. Buxtehude at the International Buxtehude Festival Lübeck (NDR direct broadcast in cooperation with all German and various international cultural channels), at the Bremen Music Festival in Utrecht , Leiden and Krakow as well as in CD productions as part of the complete recording of the Buxtehude cantatas. At the International Herrenchiemsee Festival 2004, she made her role debut as Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro under Enoch zu Guttenberg . An ARD television production with Haydn's Seasons and concerts with Haydn's Creation in the Prinzregententheater in Munich and in the Alte Oper Frankfurt followed. In 2005 she sang Die Jahreszeiten at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the following year she performed Mahler's 4th Symphony under Enoch zu Guttenberg on a tour of England. In 2009 she performed with him at the Bejing Music Festival with the Haydn works Seasons and Creation in the Forbidden City. Engagements in 2010/2011 included a. her role debut as First Lady in Mozart's Magic Flute at the International Herrenchiemsee Festival, Mozart's Requiem at the Philharmonie Berlin and Haydn's Nelson Mass at the Beethoven Fest Bonn.

Projects in 2012 and 2013 include: Bach's St. Matthew Passion on a tour with the Noord Nederlands Orkest through the Netherlands; the St. John Passion in St.-Martin-in-the-Fields in London, Bach cantatas at the International Herrenchiemsee Festival, a tour with Haydn's Seasons under Enoch zu Guttenberg and the German Requiem by J. Brahms with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra. In the resumption of the Magic Flute production of the Herrenchiemsee Festival at the Prinzregententheater in Munich, Miriam Meyer will again sing the First Lady under Enoch zu Guttenberg.

Recordings

Meyer participated in numerous radio, television, CD and DVD productions. Here are e.g. One example is the CD production of the Handel oratorio Jephta with the Dresden Barockorchester in the role of Iphis (live recording in the Dresden Frauenkirche 2008); the ARD -Fernsehproduktion and DVD release of Haydn's Seasons under Enoch zu Guttenberg in 2009, the DVD recording of Handel's opera Teseo with the Lautten Compagney under Wolfgang Katschner as well as participation in the recording of the complete vocal works by Buxtehude under Ton Koopman was, in this series the recording Dietrich Buxtehude, Opera Omina VII - Vocal Works Vol. 3 with Miriam Meyer as soprano soloist was awarded the Echo Klassik Prize 2009 (choir / ensemble music 16th - 17th centuries). In 2010 Meyer sang the soprano solo in the CD production The Last Things by Ludwig Spohr with the Russian Chamber Philharmonic St. Petersburg.
