Mirjam von Arx

Mirjam von Arx (* 1966 in Weinfelden ) is a Swiss film and television director and film producer .

Life

After completing her training at the Ringier School of Journalism , von Arx worked as an editor and freelancer for various German-language magazines. As a freelance journalist, she worked a. a. from 1991 to 1994 in New York . In 1991 she produced the road movie Bluesiana with Polo Hofer . In addition to regular reports on Swiss television , she made short documentaries for Sat.1 .

In 2001, she began filming for the documentary Building the Gherkin on the construction of the building 30 St Mary Ax by Norman Foster in London . The film was finally released in 2005. It was released in 2006 a. a. at the 6th Architecture Film Festival in Munich in Munich Filmmuseum shown. It was also shown in 2006 at the DOKU.ARTS Festival in Berlin and at the 3rd Architecture Week A3 Regensburg in Regensburg .

In 2002 she founded the production company ican films gmbh. In 2006/2007 she produced the documentary Sieben Mulden und eine Leorp , which was released in 2007 for Thomas Haemmerli . The film was u. a. in August 2007 at the 60th Locarno Film Festival and in January 2008 at the Solothurn Film Festival . In 2009 she produced Seed Warriors , a documentary about the seed vault in Norway , with which scientists want to safeguard global biodiversity in the long term. Her film Virgin Tales , which portrays the family of a US evangelical official , came out in theaters in June 2012 .

In 2014, the film Freifall - a love story was released , based on the death of the boyfriend at the time, who died during base jumping .

Awards

  • Award at the Festival International du Film sur l'Art in Montréal 2006 for Building the Gherkin
  • The film Seven Holes and a Corpse won the Zurich Film Prize in 2007 .
  • Audience Award of the Duisburg Film Week (seven hollows and a corpse)
  • In 2008 a nomination for the Swiss Film Prize for seven hollows and a corpse
