Thomas Haemmerli, 2012

Thomas Haemmerli (* 1964 in Zurich ) is a Swiss film and television director , journalist and artist .

Life

Haemmerli studied 1984-1986 jurisprudence and from 1987 Philosophy at the University of Zurich . In 1988 he founded the Zurich city magazine Nizza and worked there as a columnist and film critic until 2001. From 1994 to 1998 he worked for Swiss television as editor of the news program 10vor10 . From 1998 to 2000 he was head of department at the SonntagsZeitung , for which he still works as a freelance columnist.

From 1995 Haemmerli made several short films, including documentary - A Guide and The Gotthard Tunnel is Black . Seven hollows and a corpse (2007) was his first feature film. In it, he and his brother Erik Haemmerli document how they clear out the apartment of their deceased mother, who had messie syndrome , and how they deal with their family history. An autobiographical access also has its cinema documentary Gentrification I am. Confession of a Darkling (2017), in which he deals with topics such as urban development , xenophobia and gentrification based on his living situations .

From 2002 to 2004 he was visiting professor for political communication at the University of Paris III . Haemmerli is also a co-author of the book Swissair: Mythos und Grounding .
