biography

Mirko Borsche was a graffiti sprayer in his youth , which he says had a great influence on his work. From 1992 to 1993 he studied at Kingston University and graduated as a "Postgraduated Graphic Designer". He then added a master's degree in London and then studied at the University of Applied Sciences for Design in Augsburg , where he trained as a "Diplom Communication Designer FH".

From 1996 to 1997 he worked as a freelance art director at the advertising agency Start Advertising, including for Levis , MTV and Mercedes-Benz . He then worked as Art Director at Springer & Jacoby . From 2000 to 2013 he designed posters for the Gomma record company . For several years he was responsible for the design of the Süddeutsche Zeitung magazine as well as for the founding and design of the Neon magazine . Since 2007 he has been the creative director for Zeit magazine. In 2000 he was teaching at the Bauhaus University Weimar and in 2002 at the Münster University of Applied Sciences. From 2001 to 2014 he was a member of the Art Directors Club Germany. In 2007 he was appointed to the jury of the German Design Prize and was also awarded the Visual Leader of the Year Award .

In 2007 he founded the graphic design studio Bureau Mirko Borsche in Munich, working in the areas of editorial design, book design, posters and websites. The studio has received numerous international awards.

In 2019, Borsche was a participant in the Venice Biennale: with an allusion to the term “fake news”, he created a deceptively real fake Biennale logo that could be seen all over the city.
