Miroslav Štěpán

Miroslav Štěpán (born August 5, 1945 in Louny ; † March 23, 2014 in Prague ) was a Czech politician from Komunistická strana Československa (KSČ).

Life

Štěpán was an agricultural engineer by profession. During normalization , Miroslav Štěpán was secretary of the city committee of the SSM , the youth organization of the KSČ, from 1974 to 1977 . Since 1986 he has been a leading functionary of the City Committee of the KSČ in Prague , then since 1986 a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia . Miroslav Štěpán was also the leader of the Lidové milice ( People's Militia ).

He is credited with the decisions that led to the crackdown on the demonstrations in 1988 and 1989, including that on November 17, 1989.

As a result of the so-called Velvet Revolution , Miroslav Štěpán was forced to resign from office at the end of November 1989. In December 1989 he also gave up his seat in the Federation Assembly. On December 5th he was expelled from the KSČ. After he was detained and sentenced to two and a half years, he was released from prison in October 1991.

Since its re-establishment in 1995, he has been the general secretary of Komunistická strana Československa (1995 to 1999 Strana československých komunistů ), which refers to the teachings of Marx , Engels, Lenin and Stalin .

In 2004 Miroslav Štěpán led the KSČ delegation (1995) to the Congress of the Union of Communist Parties - Communist Party of the Soviet Union , which was chaired by Gennady Zyuganov . In an interview for the editorial team of the Czechoslovak Communist , Štěpán accused the KPRF and KSČM of betraying communist ideals and starting the counter-revolution . Miroslav Štěpán denied these parties the communist character.
