Miroslav Beránek (born April 24, 1957 in Benešov ) is a former Czech football player and current coach .

Player career

In his youth, Miroslav Beránek played for Tesla Votice. The defender did his military service from 1976 to 1978 in Jindřichův Hradec . Then Beránek played for Spartak Pelhřimov before spending a season at Škoda Pilsen .

Miroslav Beránek only made it into the first division at the age of 27. From 1984 to 1989 he was a regular member of the Slavia Braies defense line and played 128 games in which he scored five goals. The defender ended his career with the Austrian club SV Gmünd between 1989 and 1993 . In the last two years he worked as a player coach in Gmünd .

Coaching career

Beránek's coaching career began in 1993 as an assistant at his former club Slavia Prague. In the next season he was head coach at Slavia and led the team to the runner-up. However, his contract was not renewed, Beránek worked in the spring of 1996 for third division SK Kladno .

For the 1996/97 season he took over the coaching position at FK Chmel Blšany , which he led in 1998 in the first division . In the first first division year, Blšany achieved a respectable success with sixth place. In addition, Beránek has worked as an assistant coach for the Czech U-21 team since 1997. Standing on a relegation zone he had to leave Chmel Blšany in November 2001, but shortly afterwards he was hired again at Slavia Prague. As head coach, he led the Czech U-21 national team to victory at the 2002 European Championship . Then Beránek was assistant to Karel Brückner in the senior national team. In Prague he was dismissed in the winter of 2003 after a failed preliminary round.

Before the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Beránek got the offer to train FC Superfund from Pasching , but refused. After the World Cup preliminary round, Beránek resigned as assistant coach of the national team. In August 2006 he became a coach at the Hungarian club VSC Debrecen , which he led to the championship in 2007.

For the 2008/09 season Beránek took over the Al-Wasl club from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates , but resigned from his position at the end of September. After a short stopover at SK Kladno , Beránek became coach of the Kazakh national team on January 31, 2011 . After the end of qualification for the 2014 World Cup , which Kazakhstan finished in penultimate place, the paths parted again. From May 2012 to July 2013 he was also the coach of FK Astana . In the 2014/15 season he was again in charge of Slavia Prague.
